All students, faculty and staff at El Camino College in the Torrance area will be among the millions of participants in this year's Great California ShakeOut.
This statewide earthquake drill, spanning all 58 California counties, is planned for Thursday. When the alert sounds at 10:18 a.m. on that day, all El Camino College students, faculty and staff will drop to the ground, take cover by getting under a sturdy desk or table and hold on to the furniture until the "shaking" stops.
When given notice, everyone will be instructed to evacuate in an orderly manner to their building's designated assembly area. A building emergency responder will give directions. Everyone should stay in the designated area until given notice by the building captain to return to the building.
Earthquakes occur without warning and may be so violent that running or crawling is impossible. People who are outdoors are advised to get into the open - away from buildings, power lines and trees.
General information about this statewide event is available at www.shakeout.org/.
