Experiences - Tips for a 5-day binge - Drugs Forum

Hello all. I am new to the forums, and am enjoying reading all the information on here.

Before I ask my question, here's a little background. I used to be a heavy drinker, going through roughy two 1.5 liter bottles of whiskey a week. I used to smoke a pack a day, going up to 2 packs a day for about 6 months. Which is when I decided enough was enough. I have been off the bottle for over four years now. I still smoke about half a pack daily. I have been thinking about quitting, but I am not ready yet.

Every year, I get a week of pure me-time. I have the house to myself, and with no work for the week, it's vacation time for me. I am not a very social person, and I love being by myself for that week. When I said that I had been off the bottle for the past four years, I was not being entirely truthful. Every year, during my vacation week, I do indulge myself. And because this is the only time I drink during the year, I like to go all the way. All I want to do besides eating and sleeping is to drink alcholol and smoke cigarettes. I go through about four 750 ml bottles of rum or whiskey, and 7 or 8 packs of cigarettes during the five days. Most of the time is spent listening to music, watching movies, surfing the web, and chatting with my online friends. I reserve the last two days for cleaning up the mess, getting rid of the smell in the house, and getting off the hangover. The hangover, from past experience, is uncomfortable, but nothing too crazy.

I have done this four times over the past four years, and this February will be my fifth. I know the risks involved, and my limits. I am not looking for advice on why i should not be doing my binge session. I have done it a few times in the past, and have been able to handle it well. It's the only time of the year when I allow myself to let go, and feel that I deserve a little break. Also, it has not made me go back to being an alcoholic. I don't touch a drop once indulgence week is over, so I am not worried about getting back on the wagon.

What I would like to know is, are there any people here who do this sort of thing - usually dont drink, but go all-in for a few days, once in a while? What has their experience been like?

Equally importantly, can you guys give me any tips to make my 5-day session more fun? For instance, I get major headaches, usually on day 3, and they last for about a day or so, before subsiding. I don't feel comfortable taking painkillers since they are nasty on the liver or stomach, considering the amount of alcohol I am drinking at the time. I make sure that I drink a lot of water and juice during the binge so I don't dehydrate too much. Besides that, I force myself to eat regular meals, even though my appetite is obviously shot from all the booze and cigarettes. Music sounds great for the first couple of nights, but after that I can't stand the noise in my ears! I wish there were a magical way to quickly detox myself in the middle of the binge, and start all over again, if you know what I mean.

Finally, I haven't done any drugs (other than the nicotine and alcohol), and I don't intend on starting now. I realize from reading the threads on these forums that alcohol and nicotine aren't the drugs of choice for most, as far as getting high is concerned, but unfortunately (or fortunately) for me doing any other drug (hard or soft) is not an option. I got to make the most from the alcohol, and the cigarettes.

I apologize for rambling a bit, and thank you for reading my first post on DF!
