10 Years of Supporting Permanency | Homes4Good

It was almost 10 years ago now when my family opened the doors at Homes4Good. Many things have changed and some people are still here, some are not. Things have changed in the state as well as in the Foster Care and Adoption world over the last 10 years. We have also learned a lot about child development and a plethora of other issues as well.

One thing that has remained the same, and will remain the same for as long as possible, is our philosophy of permanency. However, our understanding of permanency has grown over the last 10 years. in 2002, we felt the only permanent option for children in foster care was for them to be adopted out of the system into a permanent home.

In the last 10 years we have learned that permanency can mean many things. Adoption is still at the top of our list for permanency, but that isn't the only option. There is a push in Texas to have children go to family members when at all possible. Homes4Good has been helping facilitate this when given the opportunity because we feel this fits with our mission. If a child is going to a loving, caring, safe, secure and permanent?home, then it's our job to support ?that process in anyway we can.

We have also started to work on building some long term foster homes who will care for children until they age out of the system. We fell this also fits with our mission simply because if that's the last placement a child will have, that's permanency. There are many occasions in the last 10 years where long term foster care was the only viable solution for a child. We want to support that without having a child moved from home to home over time. We want to find the ONE?home that will support that child FOREVER.

We hope that over time we will be able to facilitate more permanency ?and find more homes for children in care. We believe that it's everyone's right to have a safe, loving, stable and permanent home. We hope you will join us in working toward saving the world, by saving our children.
